Oxo-Alcohols

Through our 50% stake in the Oxochimie joint venture, INEOS Oxide is now a major European producer of Oxo-Alcohols. The world-scale production unit at Lavéra, France produces normal-butanol, iso-butanol and 2-ethyl hexanol from the catalytic oxidation of propylene.

Applications

Normal-butanol and iso-butanol are versatile solvents used in a range of applications notably in coating formulations. They are also widely used as raw materials in the manufacture of glycol ethers, acetate esters and acrylate esters. 2-Ethyl Hexanol also has a range of solvent applications, but is primarily used as a raw material for the manufacture of DOP, a phthalate ester plasticizer.
