INEOS Oxide help preserve the Mary Rose
January 8th 2008

The Mary Rose, the 500 year old flagship of King Henry VIII naval fleet, has been undergoing preservation at Portsmouth Naval Docks in the UK for several years.

Up until today, phase I of this preservation process has entailed impregnating the ship's timbers with PEG200 supplied by INEOS Oxide to expell water trapped int the cells of the timber and prevent shrinkage. Phase II will start in April 2005 and last for 5 years during which the ship will be treated with one of INEOS Oxide's high molecular weight PEGs to seal and strengthen the surface. On completion, the Mary Rose Trust, whose President is HRH the Prince of Wales, will locate the boat and its artefacts in a galleried museum in the docks. INEOS Oxide are delighted to play such a key role in the preservation of this historical ship by providing these alkoxylate molecules and technical expertise.
